Covering a brief 80 years of history this manuscript is a broad-based account on the Department of National Parks and Wildlife management and wildlife conservation in Rhodesia and post independent Zimbabwe.

This unique record, comprising 14 chapters - some 600 pages of text, over 700 colour and black and white photographs, together with a comprehensive appendix, has been put together to document the story and ethos of what was once acclaimed the finest wild life agency in Africa and elsewhere.

As records gather dust and are forgotten, this story is particularly poignant telling as it does of the people, men and women both black and white, and the country, firstly Rhodesia and then Zimbabwe, that pioneered conservation and sustainable wildlife management.
